Storytelling Sundays- Our American 4 July

Two years ago, we were lucky enough to be in Irving, Texas for the entire summer.....meaning we got to spend that most American of Holidays- Independence Day- there.

Although we were there because of DH's work, he was actually in Germany for the Holiday, so it was just Kirsty and I on the day. We spent the day looking forward to 'The Firecracker Festival', which was to take place just around the corner from where we were staying....there was to be live music, food and fireworks!

When we arrived, there was such a carnival atmosphere....there were (organised) people who had brought their own chairs and tables to have their picnics,

children (and adults) playing in the fountains

and there were rides and craft stalls galore. After having a browse round, Kirsty and I claimed our spot to do a bit of 'people-watching', while the stage was being set up.

Just as the music started, Kirsty turned to me and announced she felt a bit queasy, but thought it was the heat and that it would pass. However, as the colour drained from her face, Iknew it was time to leave!.
We just made it back to the apartment, and she was MONUMENTALLY sick (please note that 19 year-old girls still  want their mum to hold their hair back , whilst in the throes of vomiting!).

Once she got rid of the contents of her stomach, she fell asleep, and I was able to nip out and watch the fireworks (which were quite stupendous, I must add)...so much for our first  4 July BNO (big night out)!!

Yesterday, I made a LO about this story......using a challenge over at Scrap Friendzy.

Why not pop over to Sian's Blog, where you will find a list of other stories for 'Storytelling Sunday'...and maybe even leave one yourself!

Thanks for dropping by!
Take care of you
