THE HEIGHT OF SUMMER

Much as I'm hoping the height of summer is actually over- weatherwise-  I'm not actually convinced...it was reading 106*/ 41* at the back door again this afternoon! I think the nights MAY be getting a little cooler, but I don't want to say that too loudly and tempt fate!

JULIE KIRK's 'Height of Summer' is also almost  over...I have been following it with interest and amusement, and have decided to add my 'twopence worth'!

As you can see from this photograph.....

Craig, myself, Kirsty, the two nieces, mum and dad

....I do not come from a tall family, so at 5' 3" I feel fairly average (my brothers are slightly taller, but not by much).

What strikes me most in the picture above and in this one....

...apart from, of course the obvious fact that I am a head shorter than Craig!..is that Kirsty, who is actually about three inches taller than me, tends to 'hunch down' to my height when we are in photographs together...I wonder if she realises she does so?

Thanks for dropping by!
take care of you
Alison xx

  4. Such wonderful family photos. Our youngest daughter is as tall as our son at just over 6 feet tall. She doesn't like being so tall, but I pray that she will learn to embrace her height. My husband is 5'10'', so we're not sure where the tallness comes from. I'm just 2 inches taller than you. ~ Blessings, Tracey

  6. I'm 5'6 and both my girls are shorter than me. One is 5'1 and the other is 5'3
. I always feel a little sad that they didn't grow taller than me. I know they really wanted to.

  7. Glad you joined the party!
I've noticed when taking group shots than many people hunch down. I think they worry about getting cut off if they don't squeeze in.

  8. lovely family photo - 5 foot 3 seems to be a common height for Scottish women

  9. My immediate family are small like me too - lulls me into a false sense of normality sometimes! You can forget the majority of the population is taller than you!

Thanks for joining in Alison - I've added your post to the board http://pinterest.com/notesonpaper/the-height-of-summer-2012/ and will go and add you to the height chart! [It'll go on my blog on Thursday].

  11. Yes, that would be about average round here too - though TSO is now a couple of inches taller than I am and still growing..

    That's a lovely picture

  12. Once again, I am taller than a blog friend. :o} I've had fun reading these height-of-summer posts, and only a few of our friends are close to my height. Ruth and Mel and I would be among the tallers friends (I'm 5'7" - my great-grandmother was 6' tall!). Sweet photos of your family!!!

  14. Until I read your height, just looking at the photo I was thinking you were probably 5'6" or 7", there are some small people in your family :)

  15. What a lovely photo of your family Alison. I am the same height. I've always envied those tall & lanky ladies! ;)

  16. That 'hunch' is really interesting! I sometimes find myself 'hunching' for a photo if I'm the tallest in a group, though I've never properly thought about it before!

  17. Oh my sounds like your summer is still in full swing there. We are just heading out of Winter now with temps in the high 20s right now. Had 34 the other day which was a killer but there is much worse to come - EEEEEEk!! Must be a shock to you coming from Scotland!! One does acclimatize over the years though I find! Sweet Kirsty is just bending down to be closer to mum :)

  18. Such lovely family photographs, Alison. Still sounds hot out there, contrary to our autumnal weather. At least the rain kept away for the opening of the paralympic games last night. It was spectacular. x

  19. It's been lovely to see all the posts on this subject. Height is quite an issue for my daughter, so many comments have struck a chord. I had always thought you were around 5' 7", no idea why! I'm actually an inch taller than you.

  23. What a nice family picture! In our family my sister (5'4") tends to follow my Mum's (5'2") side of the family while I (5'6") take after Dad's (5'10 1/2") side.
