.....obviously NOT on Sunday, but I didn't want to miss the last one of the year; so rather belatedly, here I am with my 'precious' for December. For the uninitiated of you who may just have dropped by my blog, Storytelling Sunday is the brainchild of SIAN over at FROM HIGH IN THE SKY. This year she has encouraged our little band of storytellers to think about the things which are precious to us, and to tell the stories behind them.
Being December, that can only mean one thing in this house....CHRISTMAS!!...so my last 'precious' for this year is 'topper' we have for our main Christmas tree. Many people have angels, or even stars but since 1985 we have had this little fellow:
He was given to us (well to Stuart really) by Craig's great aunt Margaret, who bought him at her Church Christmas Bazaar.....and he is made from an empty tin can and some cotton wool! Although Stuart was only three months old at the time, he was mesmerised by the Christmas Tree and the snowman which we put on top of it (really because we didn't know what else to do with it!)....and it just became one of our family traditions to top the tree with the snowman. We would now never think of replacing him ...he has watched over us for all those Christmases and I like to think that when he goes on the tree, a little part of Stuart is here as part of our celebrations too.
If you would like to read more stories (which I'm guessing this month may have a Festive feel to them!) why not pop over HERE.
I would just like to thank SIAN for organising us yet again.....I'm sure I'm not the only one who now has stories I hadn't even thought about AS stories, told.
Thanks for dropping by!
Take care of you
Alison xx
What a lovely story to end the year of pyp x X
ReplyDeleteAs Louise says, a perfect precious to round off the year.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to feel that connection - I can see what a real treasure this little snowman is. Glad he will be with you again this Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a totally cute tree topper & I love that he was given to Stuart so you'll always have that as part of your Christmas tradition & remember him being mesmerized by it!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you joined in. And your topper is certainly a great subject. We alternate between an angel and a red star. So glad this brings back happy memories of Stuart.

Absolutely perfect for the end of the year Alison. It's lovely to think of him appearing every year with that happy memory.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all the stories. I'm so glad that we've been able to hear more about Stuart through your posts this year. Have a great Christmas x
That's truly precious
ReplyDeleteA lovely story and a beautiful, precious tree topper x
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely story,Alison.....and I'm very impressed that he's lasted in one piece all this time!
ReplyDeleteLovely story and gorgeous little fella!
ReplyDeleteWhat else could you possibly put atop your tree? I can see why Stuart would have liked him - he's adorable.
ReplyDeleteI can see why he is so precious xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet and precious thing - to have such memories associated with a simple little snowman!
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful Alison x
ReplyDeleteI love this, Alison! I can only imagine how special that little tree topper is to you, and I don't blame you one bit for never wanting to trade it out! xo
ReplyDeleteOh what a wonderful precious Alison. Just perfect for the last one of the year.
ReplyDeleteA BRILLIANT tree topper (and extra special because of who it belongs to).
ReplyDeleteThis year, we're decorating a tree in a place that's not our home. We don't have any of our precious baubles nor our precious angel that normally looks down on us. I've been pondering what to top the tree with and, thanks to you, sharing your story, we're now going to make a snowman from an old tin and top it with that! Thank you so much for sharing your story.
ReplyDeleteWow, isn't he jolly?! I think its "cool" to be different ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have your snowman's cousins at my house! My sister-in-law is a very talented crafter. She gave us a snow family (papa, mama, child probably because that's our family composition) dressed up as carolers. In fact, she was kind enough to make us a second set when the first ones were damaged. So I thoroughly agree with you that your snowman tree topper is a treasure. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI think he is lovely and a perfect precious to share as the last story :-)
