Houseguests

Mum and dad have arrived today, with their friend Barbara- and DH, trying to keep them  in check!
At this very moment in time, my mum and Barbara are rolling around the sofa, tears rolling down their faces, because( for the umpteenth time since arriving) they have started a conversation and can't remember the name of the place they are talking about!  'One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest' has NOTHING on this!

Now, it's not that I don't love my mum and dad...I DO -dearly- but because I live in Spain and they in Scotland, when they come to visit it's not for a weekend, or even a week! They are here for 4-5 weeks, by the end of which I may be on that ward in 'Cuckoo's Nest' too!

Don't get me wrong...it's not as if they are any bother while they are here. The problem is ME! I am so used to my own space and doing  (or not doing) things  when I can be bothered, that it's a real effort for me to think about feeding and amusing other people.

I know I will enjoy spending time with them and Barbara( who is here for ten days)...the fact DH is here for a week or so will help too-he is expert at keeping me calm- but I do worry for my what is left of my sanity!

Thanks for dropping by!
Take care of you
Alison xx

  1. LOL - I know what you mean about getting used to your own space and timetable and then coping with thinking of others ... at least your sun will be shining more than in Scotland - there are always walks!

  3. I guess that is one thing about moving so far away (and to a lovely sunny place!) people stay for much longer. I know what you mean about needing your own space and having to change your timetable to accommodate guests, but after 4 weeks, you'll have forgotten what 'normal' was!

  4. Rather you than me! Family are all nice to see & catch up with every now & again but when you live in places like we do (Here it is hot & by the beach) people do tend to overstay their welcome. Fortunately we never have a spare bedroom with 4 kids! I can take people for 3 nights & that's my limit. We are also very much a family that does our own thing & each likes their own space & I amuse myself happily for hours & don't need visitors to do it for me LOL - well I do hope they don't drive you batty & they amuse each other so that you still have a bit of your own time!!

  5. I completely know how you feel. I had mum here for support for 10 days, but i ended up more knackered because i felt obliged to entertain her.

Well done on getting rid of those Kgs. I hope the parents dont drive you to comfort eating (unless its fruit)..
    thanks for dropping by earlier.

  6. I know exactly how you feel! My space is my space and much as I love my in-laws coming to stay, I am so pleased to get my house back to myself when they have gone! I hope you have a lovely time with your parents though :)
