Life in the Slow Lane: A Cautionary Tale

A Cautionary Tale

This morning, I have just done one of the worst things  that any woman 'of a certain age'..and certainly one who owns up to having what Shimelle's post  HERE , calls 'vintage' photos to scrap ;)
....can do. I have looked in the mirror with my glasses on!!!!!

I mean that I have looked at my face, not just a general 'does this look OK to pop out in?' sort of glance...and I'm sure it looks much more lined than it normally does.

I am putting up two theories (apart from the obvious, of course) here, one of which is that wearing your glasses to look at your face must obviously magnify that- which- you-do- not -wish -to- know- about!

The other is that , for the last few weeks I have not been using my usual moisturiser -i.e. moisturiser for wrinkly mature skin

This is mainly because it is more expensive than 'off the shelf' moisturisers AND I have to send for it, adding to the cost. Being on a bit of an economy drive at the moment, and having a couple of moisturisers I had bought 'to do' when I have run out whilst travelling, I decided to use these instead.

Now I know I might be kidding myself, but I have felt my skin a bit dryer this past week or so and was just talking myself around to get an order in. Now that I have actually looked at it, guess what's next on my 'to do' list- yep, an order to LIZ!

Kirsty will laugh at this when I tell her, because I'm always telling her to use the best moisturiser she can afford (or talk ME into buying for her!), as I have always believed that to be the case.

Whichever of these reasons is true, my advice is:
a) don't look in the mirror with your glasses on!
b)DO buy the moisturiser for wrinkly mature skin if you can afford it!!

On another note, I just wanted to share this pic of the lovely 'Happy Mail' I received from our friend  MELISSA last week- even the envelope was a work of art!

Thanks Melissa!

Thanks for dropping by!
Take care of you
Alison xx

  1. Excellent, excellent advice!

  2. 2 pieces of excellent advice there.....trouble is I now find it hard to put make up on without my glasses!!!!!

  3. I definitely put extra money into skin care products; I think it's worth it! LOL! Love the happy mail. Nice stamps . . .

  4. Great advice there Alison LOL!

  5. That is very good advice Alison. If I see a wrinkle coming then I just eat a cream cake to smooth it out :) x

  6. I tend to try and not look in the mirror lol! love the happy mail x

  7. I know what you mean! Mirrors are best avoided over 40!! I wish I could afford the best products but I use off the shelf stuff - so I can buy more scrappy goodies haha! But I do stay out of the sun - that's helped alot!!

  8. I'm a huge Liz Earle fan :) but from time to time I try other (cheaper) brands .... Ummm, let's just say I always go back

  9. I am going to buck the system a little, nothing beats Cetaphil moisturiser for dry and sensitive skin ... I have spent a lot of money in the past and this wins hands down and it is inexpensive. Of course, it's a pretty personal thing - what works best is different for everyone!

  10. I totally agree with you Alison. Fortunately, I have found a local supermarket that sells its own brand and it seems to be on a par with the expensive ones and works well for me. I do go back to my expensive one on occasion but cannot justify the expense all the time.

  11. I'm a Liz Earle girl as well and I love the fact that she uses natural products. I've just found out that if I order from John Lewis online, I can have it delivered to my local Waitrose supermarket and save post and packing. Result!
Sad to say that if I don't wear my glasses now when putting on make up, I need to turn the mirror over to the magnified side and that's even more scary!

  12. Very good advice Allison, I have been a Clinique girl for years now as I've got sensitive skin that reacts to most things, and I wouldn't swap it for anything else now :)

  13. Ha, you're so funny, Alison! Us mature gals have to take care of our wrin, er mature skin! ~ Blessings

  14. I'm so glad you enjoyed the Happy Mail!

Well, since I still have 20/20 vision (since my Lasik surgery 10 years ago), I am at a distinct disadvantage until my eyes begin to "mature". LOL

  15. Very good advice! Get than order in, because you're worth it! I love the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser, but don't like the moisturiser at all.

  16. Oh yes, my face is always amply moisturized with the best stuff I can afford. It's my hands that have been neglected lately, and they definitely feel rough.

  17. this post made me smile. I use to buy the cheap stuff thinking it was good enough. But once I tried the good stuff and saw the difference I will do what ever it takes to get my good facial products.

I'll make sure I keep my glasses off at all times when looking at my skin. ;)

  18. Love reading your blog. I have an award for you over on my blog. Stop by and check it out.

  19. I've long believed we get myopia for that very reason--without glasses we don't see near the distressing detail we do with them! Great post!

Thanks for leaving a comment....I love reading them all!
