I burst out laughing and reminded her that when she was little, she had bemused us for ages, insisting that it wasn't Bert - it was someone new called Felthy. We just could not work out where she had got this idea- and she was not to be budged on it. One day I walked in at exactly that part, to hear Jane (I'm sure it's Jane who says it) say....'Bert, you're filthy!' in her best 'posh' accent...and it clicked! Kirsty thought Jane was saying ' you're FELTHY'...and at her young age, took it to be his name.
She had, of course, totally forgotten about it and couldn't believe that she would ever have thought something like that !

ReplyDeleteOh Alison - your story is just so funny and it has reminded me that when Gracia was little she so loved Mary Poppins and could often be heard saying 'Come along - spit spot' or 'It's practically perfect in every way'. I love that Story Telling Sunday has a domino effect on memories x
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely story and one worth scrapbooking, I say.
ReplyDeleteLittle ones can come up with the darndest things, can't they? But in this case it turned in to a lasting memory that makes a movie favorite even more special.
ReplyDeleteOh brilliant, we all love Mary Poppins too...spit spot, lovely memory Alison.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, we love mary Poppins too! Great story Alison:)
ReplyDeleteI love misheard word stories and this is a really funny one! Mary Poppins, what a classic children's film, I love that it is still on tv from time to time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story, and memory :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love Mary Poppins especially bert and his dubious cockney accent! When my eldest was little she was convinced that the female character in Bob the Builder was called Salad and would not be told otherwise!
ReplyDeletea lovely story Alison x
ReplyDeleteKids always make me giggle. I love how they are so sure they are right that you can't persuade them otherwise!

Oh yes....just what a child would think!!!!!

ReplyDeleteMary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - two movies we watched over and over as kids! Wonderful story Alison :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful story. They actually showed that on the big screen in the cinema 2 years ago here so I took the boys, they were a little young and found the bank scenes a little boring, but they have at least seen the movie once, maybe it is time to show them it again
ReplyDeleteBless her! I love that film.
