AND THE BOOK GOES TO......

As promised, I got around to picking a name out of the hat bowl, and 'HOW I LIVE NOW' is about to continue its journey.....this time to my homeland, as LIZ from  LIFE AT THE GABLES is the recipient! Congratulations Liz...will you email your mailing details to me at alison290atlivedotcodotuk and I'll get it on it's way.

I have just had a lovely week with my friend Elaine, who came over for some R&R after some surgery. We didn't do much...just caught up with each others lives and enjoyed the sunshine. She left yesterday, returning to Scotland and it has only occurred to me this morning, that if I had been more organised she could have taken the book back to post, and Liz wouldn't have had to wait for the Spanish postal service to 'get into gear'!

Mum and dad arrive tonight...I haven't seen them since January, so am looking forward to them arriving. As regular readers know though, much as I love to see them, because of the distance for travelling they stay for about five weeks, which when you are used to living on your own most of the time is a bit stressfull. That sounds really mean and selfish, especially as dad suffers from Parkinson's Disease and Emphysema and the sun and heat are so  good for him, but I suppose that because I DO live so far away, I don't see the deterioration in him and suddenly I have to live with it 24/7 for five weeks. It's very difficult to see our parents growing old, with all the implications that brings. Am hoping and praying that both he and mum's health benefit from their visit , and that I can cope with whatever issues the visit throws at us.

Anyway, hope you've all had a great weekend...especially those in the UK who are enjoying some much-awaited sunshine!

Thanks for dropping by!
Take care of you
Alison xx

  1. I can fully understand your feelings about your five week long visit, and no matter how much you love them, it is hard to integrate others into your normal routine. My patience is stretched if my M-I-L stays overnight for a bank holiday weekend so 5 weeks would be a nightmare for me!!! Hope you have a nice time and that they find the Spanish sunshine a good pick-me-up. And keep a big jug of Sangria in the fridge for when you need it!

  2. Hi Alison :) I hope your time with your parents goes well with no or very little issues arising :) I think Deb has some good advice in that jug of Sangria!

  3. I hope it goes well for you too. We were just talking about this the other day here - because of my Mum's MS, I saw her decline start when I was much younger and now I'm finding that a lot of my friends are reaching the same point now. It's certainly not easy..

  4. Best wishes for a happy visit from your parents. I fully understand your feelings because my mother comes and lives with us during the summer. I love having her here, but I'm happy when she goes back. Just take deep breathes when needed and the Sangria's are a good idea too! :)

  5. Not mean at all. No matter how much you love your visitors, it's not easy to lose your own space. I hope you all enjoy each other's company.

  6. Visitors, no matter how much you love them or how easy it is to have them around, are still a break in your routine. I've had visitors for 12 years, and it will be another 12 years before they leave (aka the kids) - LOL. You're just being honest. I hope your time together goes as smoothly as possible.

  7. Alison, Lifting up a prayer that the time will be gentle on all of you and that it will leave you with warm memories.

  8. I don't think that's selfish at all. Moving and not telling them your new address. That's selfish.

  9. You are most definitely not being selfish. I hope all is going well and the visit is really doing your parents good.

  10. I envy you all the company you have and also am glad it's not me that has as many visitors if that makes sense! I would love to have fun in the sun with my friends and am so glad to hear you had a good time. I know I would be a terrible long-term host though. I am too set in my ways and too fond of my own time. Hope you have a great time with your parents. I'm sure they will be very happy to enjoy some of that Spanish sunshine with you!

  11. I know what you mean about being with other people 24/7 for a while, even if it makes up for the lack of seeing them the rest of the time it can still be difficult. I am still getting to know about Parkinsons so I don't know what the future might bring for my Dad but it is interesting that the sun and heat would be good for him - fat chance of that here!!
