STORYTELLING SUNDAY

On the first Sunday of every month, encouraged by the lovely SIAN over at  FROM HIGH IN THE SKY, Bloggers from all points of the globe get together and tell stories...happy stories, funny stories, sad stories, long stories, short stories, stories with or without pictures- anything goes, and EVERYONE is made very welcome..

'A little Summer Loving', Sian suggested as a theme.....a tenuous link here, as the picture is from a Wedding- not our wedding but that of my brother and SIL, who celebrate their 21st Anniversary in a couple of weeks.

Did I REALLY look like that 21 years ago?!

I love this picture on many levels..the fact that Craig's lovely Gran is in it, that my nephew Graeme looks so sweet in his kilt, that Stuart, Kirsty and said nephew are obviously much more interested in what's happening off to the side...not to mention that I felt really good in that outfit..I had lost weight and the dress was a UK size 12!!!!

But what REALLY makes me smile is what you can't see..and an incident which took place the following year!

Like I said, I really LOVED this dress, and wore it over Christmas a few times, before it went away over the Winter. It made a re-appearance round about Easter the next year, when I wore it to Church quite a few times.

One Sunday morning I ended up doing 'Creche Duty' with my friend Janette, who suddenly piped up as I was checking the baby in one of the prams:

'Alison, were they the shoes you wore to David's Wedding, or do you have another pair?'

'No, it was these ones..why?'

'They're odd shoes you know'

I looked down and saw two perfectly matching shoes...or were they? Surely one didn't have a slightly less pointed toe than the other..off came the shoes (by which time Janette was almost crying with laughter)..and only then did I see that the heels were TOTALLY different- there was even about a quarter of an inch difference in height!! How on earth could I have FAILED to notice the difference?! I was mortified and hysterical with laughter all at once. not only had I worn the blessed things to a Wedding, but at various other times too!

Unfortunately, as this was pre-blogging, pre-scrapbooking days, I didn't take a photograph, but every time I look at this picture I'm reminded...so now I'm off to start a layout to get this story down for posterity!

If you have a story to tell, or if you just wish to sit and enjoy a story or two (or more!), please consider stopping by  HERE  ...you are sure to find a great collection to while away some time with!

Thanks for dropping by!
Take care of you

  5. Alison that is soooo funny! A similar thing happened with Ds when we went to get him a new pair of shoes and they asked what size his current ones were and looked inside and they were 2 different sizes! The shop had made a mistake and they felt so awful they gave me money off his next pair!

  9. I know the feeling. When I find an article of clothing I like, I tend to buy two or three in various colors, etc. Shoes are no exception to that rule, so it's not surprising that when I found a pair of white sandals at a nice low price that I also bought the same style in brown and blue. And, of course, they all felt the same on my feet...so you can imagine my dismay while I was at the grocery store one day when another shopper pointed out my mismatched footwear. I replied, honestly enough, "I have another pair just like them at home!"

  11. That's laugh out loud funny! what a perfect example of a story behind a picture. And it's funny, the year that the photo in my post was taken, my sister made me a formal dress. She only told me last year that one of the panels was sewn in inside out and my Mum had said I'd never notice. and I hadn't!

You look fabulous - I'm not surprised this picture is a favourite Alison. Thanks for adding it to our collection today

  22. That is a great story! I also love the photo. I was especially drawn to the hats. You just don't see women wearing hats much anymore. That's too bad.

  26. Oh Alison, what a fantastic story! It reminds me of the time my red shoes were different colors (I must make a note about it for another Storytelling Sunday!). I, too, love the fact that three kids are looking off - must have been something interesting going on over that way!

  27. That is hilarious!!!! It is a shame that you can't see your feet in the photo or you would have a picture to zoom in on and blow up :-) What are the children looking at?????

  28. Hahaha - that is soooo funny!! That's just the kind of thing I'd do - unless I'm scrapbooking I'm also really unobservant!!!

  29. I'm surprised you couldn't tell when you were walking around. I know the difference in heel height would have totally thrown me! Great story.

  30. LOL.... now that's some funny stuff! I can definitely admit that I am guilty of something similar. However, I can't say I did it more than once!! You have me beat but you are such a good sport about it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That's hilarious that you didn't notice until she told you - you were walking in them after all - or maybe it was a sexy slightly off-balance saunter that made you feel so great in that dress!

    ReplyDelete
  32. LOL. I couldn't help but laughout loud. What a super picture of the family.

  33. Haha - great story, Alison. You do look might sharp in that outfit, I must say. And I'll confess to having two different shoes one time. I used to have a pair of heels and had a pair in black and a pair in navy. I wore one of each to work one day and didn't even notice until the day was almost over! ;o)
