What will it be.....a glass of white, rose (which is taking over from red wine here, surprisingly) or will we crack open a bottle of bubbly, in celebration of you coming to visit?
As I go through to sort the drinks I would shout through to you to 'just push the dog off the sofa and have a seat'
Once we were settled I would tell you how glad I am that you've come all this way to visit and ask how the journey was.
After catching up with your news, I would tell you how happy I am to be home, having just returned from 10 days in the UK. I would tell you how dad had been in hospital when I arrived, but was allowed home the next day...and I would probably share with you how it upsets me to see him so unwell, and with his situation only getting worse as time goes on.
On a lighter note, I would tell you how much I enjoyed spending time with Kirsty...even if I felt like a midget- and I WAS wearing high heels!....
...and how we had gone to a family wedding together
The Bride is my second cousin
I would tell you about my trip to Newcastle, staying for the first time in the flat Kirsty is sharing with one of her school friends. I would tell you how pleased I am to see her happy in her new job and gaining confidence in herself again.
While telling you about catching up with old friends, I would top up our drinks and remember that I haven't put out any 'nibbles'! After remedying that, you would hear about how , on my return to Scotland, I managed to have a night with my oldest friends (and that they just about managed to agree on a date for their next visit!)
You would hear my delight as I tell you about Craig and Kirsty arriving...and of how we managed to get dad out for a few hours on his Birthday, even though he is still recovering from being out for that few hours.
As we finish our drinks I would ask you what your plans are for the upcoming few weeks, and tell you that I really do hope you come back round about the same time next month, when we can share each other's news and company again.
Thanks for dropping by!
Take care of you
Alison xx
Great post Alison. Wow, your daughter is tall and very striking! Hugs, for dealing with the aging and sickness of a loved one.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great visit, thanks for the wine and it was lovely to meet Boo. Your daughter looks fab, it must have been great to see everyone at the wedding. Hope your dad manages to keep out of hospital now, what a worry.
ReplyDeleteSee you next month when we can enjoy a jug of sangria together!
A jug of Sangria with you and Deb sounds perfect....lovely to catch up with your news.Do hope your dad keeps improving.
ReplyDeleteooo yes, the sound of Sangria with you sounds perfect! Lovely post Alison, and lovely to hear your news.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great visit and so nice to catch up on all your news. I hope your Dad is improving. I'm sure he loved being out with you all. Hmmm, Sangria sounds good - I haven't had any in ages.
ReplyDeleteThat was a lovely chat with you. I too hope your dad is on the mend. And hoorary for the north of england; Newcastle is near me! Thank you so much for joining in.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Alison, this has been a lovely visit and rose sounds fab. Who knows maybe one of the times you are in the north east and it's term time, you me and Abi could meet up :0)
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is stunning. Hope ur dad keeps well xx
ReplyDeletegood to hear you managed to get your dad out - hope he enjoyed his birthday. A lovely read x
ReplyDeleteThank you for a great catch up over a glass or two of something cold...my favourite. Of course I'll come again, you were lovely company.
ReplyDeleteI would pass on the wine and bubbly and just ask for water. But I'd be happy to sit and talk and commiserate, and generally share life. I'd tell you about all our recent craziness buying flowers for the deck and how happy I am that Spring is finally here.
ReplyDeleteA glass of bubbly? Don't mind if I do! Having had the good fortune to drink margaritas with you in person, I can speak from experience when I say that sharing a drink in your home would be absolutely lovely! I loved reading this post, Alison! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you for having me, you made me so welcome. No need to move the dog, I'm used to sharing :) xx
ReplyDeleteMine's a rosé, thanks, Alison! Lovely to sit in your pretty conservatory and hear your news, and peep at your photos. Glad you have had such a lovely time in the UK, and hope you Dad keeps making as much progress as possible ...
ReplyDeleteI too will have Rose Alion, thank you so much. Lovely to hear your news. Hope your dad continues to progress well and so very glad your visit was so enjoyable. You made me feel so welcome - a lovely post. Take care my friend. J xx
ReplyDeleteOh, I think Boo and I can share the sofa easily. So glad you had a nice visit home and glad that your dad was released early in your visit. It is so very hard to watch them age and I'm sure it's harder when you can't see them as frequently. So happy to hear Kirsty is settled and happy. Drop by for a chat with me in the morning, friend ;)
ReplyDeleteI would move the dog over (gently) and snuggle down next to him, and sit and chat for a while! It is difficult seeing your parents age, but I'm glad to hear you got to go out with your Dad and celebrate his birthday... good wishes for continuing progress in his good health.
ReplyDeleteI would love to come visit your small town in Spain. . . if I were there, I would tell you how sorry I am to hear that your dad is doing poorly. We could talk about how important it is to spend time with parents while they're still around and how glad you'll be to spend time with him. And then we could look to the future and talk about how kids grow up and how proud they make us when they start to fly on their own wings.
ReplyDeleteRinda
I think I'd also talk about spending time with parents as they age and I'd love to see all the wedding photos ... love a good wedding ... actually, they're all good!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely visit. Wonderful post! I'm so sorry to hear about you dad. I'm glad you were able to spend time with him.
ReplyDeletemmm..gin and tonic, maybe? and definitely some crisps!
ReplyDeleteA lovely chat Alison - great to catch up and thanks for the wine!
ReplyDeleteBubbly for me, please. Or maybe a large Pimms, easy on the lemonade.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that your dad is doing poorly. It must hurt to see someone you love in pain. Hugs! But celebrate each day and make each moment count! I would love a Riesling any time of the day. :)
ReplyDeleteWe would certainly have a lovely time visiting over a cold drink - just a simple Coca-Cola for me, please! :>)
ReplyDeleteHopefully one day we will be able to do that in real life in either the UK or Spain (I have high hopes of more travelling in my future!) So Kirsty has a job back in the UK - that is marvellous! Sorry to hear your dad is unwell. Sadly that so often happens. Mine spent quite some time in & out of hospital. Before I 'forget' (due to busy'ness!) I wanted to THANK YOU for the awesome card, parcel, pen & goodies you sent me, received last week. You are such a great bloggy friend & so kind & considerate. It cheered me up no end as I've had nothing but internet problems this year & now we have a power problem at our house & keep getting plunged into darkness LOL! So appreciated xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post this was. I enjoyed catching up with your news in such a neat, conversational way. Well done!
ReplyDeleteLove to hear all of your news x
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to write a post. I will join you for that drink and I would say that a glass of bubbly is in order as you have lots to be thankful for!
